CDDIS Bulletin - August 1989
Volume 4 No.6
In this issue:
On the cover: 1989 Alaskan
VLBI Campaign
A major responsibility of the CDDIS is the collection and archive
of SLR data from stations located worldwide. The Deutsches Geodatisches
Forschungsinstitut (DGFI) in West Germany has agreed to act as the
initial collection center for the European laser stations (Grasse,
Graz, RGO, Wettzell, Zimmerwald, Metsahovi, MTLRS-1, and MTLRS-2).
In addition, DGFI receives data from many of the INTERCOSMOS SLR
stations (Borowiec, Crimea, Santiago de Cuba, Potsdam, and Riga)
and sends this data to the CDDIS. Lastly, the CDDIS receives other
data sets (e.g., Shanghai, Simosato, HTLRS, and Helwan) from the
sources themselves. Upon their arrival, these various data sets are
summarized to ensure that the MERIT II format, site occupation designators,
etc. are correct. This validated tape is then sent to the Bendix
Data Services Group, typically on a monthly basis, for merging with
the GLTN monthly releases. The table on the
page 3 details the current status of CFLN (cooperating foreign laser
network) data for 1988; page 4 shows a similar table for
the 1989 data received thus far. The shading indicates the version
(A, B, C, etc.) of the Bendix release tape that contained the data;
a slash through the box indicates that the Bendix version of the
data has been released to the CDDIS and the SLR user community. The
data merging effort of DGFI has led to a considerable increase in
the amount of data that is now released on the monthly A version,
thus providing the users with more data on a timely basis.
This section is designed to give brief notices of special events
or problems encountered in recent months.
As reported in the last issue of the DIS Bulletin, the Bendix Data
Services group has recently begun the generation of test sets of
SLR normal points. To date, the CDDIS now has normal point data produced
from the A version of the January through April, 1989 full-rate data.
